Our Leadership

Meet the Directors of Sugar Land Art Center & Gallery

Sugar Land Art Center & Gallery is led by two people who are directly reachable to anyone who walks through our doors. Executive Director Stevan F. Williamson guides the organization’s mission and long-term direction, while Director Cindy Howard runs the day-to-day life of the Art Center — classes, exhibitions, studio rentals, and the hundred small things that keep a working art center running. There are no layers of staff to work through here. If you have a question about enrolling in a class, renting a studio, showing your work, or partnering with us, one of them will answer it personally.

Stevan F. Williamson, Executive Director

Stevan F. Williamson serves as Executive Director of Sugar Land Art Center & Gallery. He guides the organization’s mission, its long-term direction, and its standing as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving Fort Bend County and the greater Houston area. His work centers on the wider picture — stewarding relationships with donors, corporate sponsors, and civic partners, and making certain the resources are in place for the classes, studios, and exhibitions that fill this building every week.

His invitation to the community is a straightforward one. The Art Center exists to give creative individuals of every age and every skill level an inspiring place to work, to learn, and to belong. Steve encourages neighbors, artists, and area businesses alike to join us or to partner with us — because community generosity is exactly what allows a nonprofit of this size to keep its doors open and its tuition affordable.

He also welcomes visitors personally. Stop by the gallery, spend an unhurried hour with the work our artists are making, and introduce yourself.

Cindy Howard, Director

Cindy Howard is the Director of Sugar Land Art Center & Gallery and the focal point for all daily operations and activities here. She is an artist and a businesswoman both, and we are happy to have her as part of our team.

Having traveled the world with an Air Force family, Cindy saw many landscapes shape her creative future. She has studied under master artisans from Norway, France, Italy, Asia — and Sugar Land. She shows in exhibits and galleries multiple times each year, frequently creates custom commission pieces, and has served on the board of directors of IDAL, the International Decorative Artisans League.

Previously she co-founded a professional decorative arts business with her business partner, Dana DeBuck. Their focus was custom decorative painting and murals for homeowners, designers, corporations, and contractors across the greater Houston area and beyond. They are ASID Industry Partners and recipients of Top Job Awards from American Painting Contractor magazine in both 2020 and 2021.

Cindy is excited about her role as Director. She loves to share her joy of art with painters at every stage, from first-time beginner to working professional, and she is eager to continue the good work the Art Center has been doing while finding new ways to grow and improve it.
